who we are
jason hoff (producer)
Having spent six years as a stockbroker and grown disillusioned with the corporate world, Jason founded Pulp Films in 2002 to pursue his greatest passion – film. Jason has produced across the board in the production world, from sports documentaries to commercials and art films and TV series. He sees himself as a creative producer, with tremendous people skills and outstanding attention to detail in all his work. Film remains his greatest passion, closely followed by cats, South Africa and travel.
mzi kumalo (director)
Since completing his degree at film school, Mzi has produced short films, corporate productions and award-nominated music videos. He joined Pulp Films in 2008, where he worked on My Beautiful Game and The Miracle of Mzansi. His current projects include Through My Lens, a documentary about the life of Alf Kumalo, The Mika Stefano Show and the Musangwe bare knuckle fist fighting series. Mzi is constantly broadening his film horizons through reading, researching and practicing his craft with people he finds engaging and inspirational.
marc rowlston (director & cinematographer)
Marc joined the film industry after leaving art school. He has a strong visual aesthetic and enjoys working with performance and narrative. He has worked throughout Africa and been in the film industry for more than 20 years. He has worked as a DOP for 10 years and as a director for the last 5 years.
etienne naudé (director, writer & editor)
Etienne studied a degree in Dramatic Art at Wits University, and did a 3-month filmmaking scholarship at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He has worked as a writer, director and editor on a variety of different publications and productions, from Time magazine to reality television. His passion is for working with interesting people and making fresh and engaging work, particularly in the realm of documentary.
chris carstens (line producer)
Cutting his teeth in the post-production field as a production manager, Chris found his passion for the film and advertising industry. With this new passion he quickly moved to on-set production and co-ordination. Having a BCom Marketing, Chris has a good understanding of production financing, budgeting and planning. With good communication skills he forges strong, long lasting relationships with clients and suppliers. Chris has experience with cameras and is technically proficient. He has a good understanding of most gear on set.
loveson xaba (camera & edit assistant)
Loveson started his career at Pulp Films as a security guard in 2007. He approached management with an enthusiasm to learn about the production industry. His incredible work ethic and fantastic aptitude for learning quickly propelled him to become a full-time member of the Pulp team. He is currently an assistant editor and camera assist, and will soon be a fully trained editor.
faith zwane (office manager & admin)
Faith is the all round “caretaker” of the staff at Pulp Films. While not feeding everyone, or managing the office, she busies herself with general up-skilling in the areas of accounts, client liaison and general administration.
sunny sekopane (gear manager & driver)
Having begun his tenure at Pulp Films as a driver, Sonny has since undergone substantial training in computer skills as well as gear maintenance. He has developed a sound understanding of general production processes, and is always learning more.
